Last week, the message focused on UNITY in the Church, which is the body of Christ. Today, the focus is upon the God-designed diversity within that unity. The most common analogy used in the New Testament to describe this diversity-in-unity is that of a physical body, which has one soul and spirit, but is comprised of trillions of cells, which compose hundreds of organs and parts, which further fall into only a handful of systems: circulatory, digestive, skeletal, to name a few. Pastor Trevor presents the five ministries stated in Ephesians 4:11 as systems of ministry, and suggests that each person in the church is designed by God to work within only one or two of these ministry areas. We are made specially by God, so we should expect His call on our life to be specialized as well. No one can do everything, but everyone can do something.
The result of this sermon is a vote from the listeners to set each of these five ministries under a microscope, which will provide the material for five subsequent sermons, which can be found under the series name, "The Five Body Systems of Ephesians 4."
