2 Thess. 3:6-12; 2 Cor. 8:13-15, 9:6-15

Pastor Trevor brings politics and economics into the pulpit… which in the view of many, is unwise. However, if we want to see more of “the pulpit” in our politics and economics, we need to recognize what the Bible has to say about them. In this message, the Pastor suggests that neither Pure Socialism nor Pure Capitalism are supported by the Bible, but that “Welfare Capitalism” is God’s ideal. It is not the government’s job, nor the job of society as a whole, to show compassion to the needy. It is the call of those to whom compassion has been shown: the Church. Welfare Capitalism leaves society vulnerable to greed and economic disparity, but it also allows the Church more freedom and capital to help the helpless – in the name of Jesus, rather than in the name of the government.

One error caught after editing: Kirk Douglas is not Tommy Douglas’ son. Pastor’s apologies!
