Lk. 1: 26-29, 30-33, 45-55; 2 Cor. 5:20; Phil. 2:5-8

What does it mean to be "re-deemed?" It means we are given a new name, a new status, a new value. God has a way of taking things which seem to be of little value in the world, and re-deeming them as great in His sight, while taking things that are deemed precious in the world, and RE-deeming them as worthless. Pastor Trevor points out the irony that while Catholics aim to exalt and honour Mary with titles like "Mother of God" and "Queen of Heaven," they may accidentally miss the biblical significance of her life. What makes her story precious to us is that she was the nothing of nothings: young, poor, single, and female. By all accounts, she was insignificant, but because she was small in her own eyes, God saw opportunity. Her story reminds us of how much greater our lives can be in God's sight, if we can only be smaller in our own sight. THIS is divine redemption.
