Ancient Words

This sermon highlights the biblical foundation for the lyrics of the well-known song, "Ancient Words." This song is not a "praise" song in the truest sense, rather a timeless call from the Church of yesterday to the Church of today, to never forget how precious a gift the Word of God (the Bible) is. The first two verses focus on the inspiration of the Bible. The third and fourth verses focus on the preservation of the Bible. The main goal of this message is to remind our church of the great price which was paid by innumerable martyrs who suffered and died to assure that we could hold this book in our hand. If we cannot find the motivation to read our Bible out of "duty," would we consider choosing to read our Bibles out of HONOUR - honour for those who so treasured the Bible that they would lay down their lives to get it to us? Guilt can motivate us temporarily, but honour drives us for a lifetime.
