Ps. 65:8, 92:1-2, 103:1-2, 8; 145:8; Jn. 14:2-4

At the request of one of our kids, we looked at what the Bible has to say about the well-known church song, 10,000 Reasons. We learned that there is biblical significance to the number chosen for the title. We also learn how the song, while fairly new, is imitating both the Bible's psalms and the tradition of our old hymns. The song is unique in that it is sung not to God, but to one's own human soul, which has been created for the specific purpose of knowing and enjoying its Creator. The last verse reminds us that we can actually look forward to the end of our days on Earth, because Jesus has gone ahead of us to prepare a place where our days and our blessings will far exceed a meager ten thousand.
