Acts 1:10-11; Phil. 2:9-11; Lk. 4:18-21; Is. 61:1-2; Rev. 5:1-9

At the request of many of our Sunday School students, the Pastor gave the Scriptural backgorund for the well-known Christian song, the Lion and the Lamb. It looks ahead to the return of Heaven's king to recapture the Earth for Heaven, and eliminate sin and death once and for all. Kings and kingdoms will bow down. Then, looking at the fascinating vision recorded in Revelation 5:1-9, we see how two characters - the Lion and the Lamb - are worthy to open the seven-sealed scroll. We also discover that the Lion and the Lamb are not two people, rather two expressions of the same person, Jesus Christ. Drawing on Philippians 2, as well as C. S. Lewis' Narnia allegory, we see that Jesus could not exalt Himself as the Lion of Judah until He humbled Himself as the Lamb of God. As those made in His image, and meant to imitate Him, we discover that our reality is no different; that we cannot claim victory over sin and all its effects until we have humbly admitted that we are as weak as lambs without God's power working through us to overcome.
