Mt. 1:1; Mk. 1:1; Lk. 1:1-4; Jn. 1:1

Today's message is a summary of the four Gospels - Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. It explains why there are slight variations of detail between the four accounts, and why these variations actually VERIFY the truth of their message - not undermine it. (Each Gospel is assigned a key-word which starts with the same letter, for memory's sake.) Matthew's goal is to convince Jewish people that Jesus really is the MESSIAH the Old Testament had foretold. Mark's main goal is to highlight the MIRACLES Jesus did, proving that He is the Son of God. Luke was a LATECOMER to the faith, and he also writes for the benefit of other latecomers and outsiders. John wants to highlight the identity of Jesus as the JEHOVAH, the great "I AM," so he includes sermons from Jesus which say I AM... (Our church then voted for which Gospel they wanted to preach through, and the majority favoured John, so our 2020 preaching plan will be heavily weighted with that Gospel!)
