Our ministry apprentice, David Peters, shares the biblical foundations of one of his favourite hymns, "Blessed Assurance." Christ-followers are called into a life-long tight-rope walk between cheap grace and legalism. We know that our salvation cannot be bought by our good works, but the Bible is also clear that a person without good works as the "fruit" of the Spirit's working in our lives should stop and wonder whether the Spirit has actually given them a re-birth. Last week, Pastor Trevor called the church to check their spiritual vital signs and decide whether they were spiritually alive and awake. This week, David provides the other side of the coin. He reminds us from the Scriptures that God WANTS us to spend eternity with him. God is not looking for ways to disqualify us. And He offers blessed assurance of salvation to everyone who will believe in Jesus and surrender to Him as Lord!
